New Eduventures Study Examines Mental Health Issues at Colleges and Universities Through the Lens of Students and Campus Stakeholders

Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 4, 2008 -- Eduventures, Inc., the leader in shared-cost, data-driven research and consulting for higher education, has announced the launch of a three-part study -- titled Mental Health Report -- that will focus on mental health issues at colleges and universities and how these institutions can better understand and best meet the mental health needs of both undergraduate and graduate students.

According to Tim Mann, Program Director and Senior Research Analyst at Eduventures and former Dean of Student Affairs at Babson College, the data and insight to be published in the Mental Health Report will help universities, in particular, their student affairs divisions, to effectively plan and deliver a supportive campus environment that meets the diverse and growing mental health needs of their student communities.

Employing data from six stakeholder groups -- undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, resident assistants, and senior mental health services/counseling services officials -- the study will analyze institutional investments and program outreach models; awareness and usage of mental health resources and referral policies; and student preferences for and barriers to existing mental health services on campus.

"This research project is unique in terms of its comprehensiveness and the way it will look at campus mental health issues," said Mann. "It assumes there is considerable value and insight to be gained by including and striving to understand the voices of a wide range of campus stakeholders and not just those responsible for delivering mental health services."

The first of the three reports, Benchmarking Investments in University Mental Health Services, will be available to members of the Eduventures Student Affairs Learning Collaborative in November of 2008. The other reports in this large-scale research investigation, Mental Health - A Stakeholder Perspective and Identifying Unmet Student Needs, will be published in December 2008 and June 2009, respectively. Members who commissioned the report will gain actionable insight in terms of future organizational, resource, policy, and programming components of their mental health support strategy on campus.
